Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to tip?
Tipping has always been a customary part of the guide industry. Typically, it is the same 18-20 percent that you would expect at a restaurant. Your guide will really appreciate it.
What if it rains?
Most of the year in the Smoky Mountains there is always a chance of rain. With that in mind, trips do go out rain or shine, as long as it is safe and the river still has clarity. Rain checks will be given if it is deemed unsafe or unfishable by the company.
What should I bring?
Your guide will have all the of the fishing gear necessary for your trip. All you will need to bring are any extra layers and rain gear, as well as a valid fishing license for anyone over 16. You are welcome to bring your own fishing gear if preferred.
How big are the fish? How many will we catch?
The size range of the fish varies significantly, as it takes smallmouth a long time to grow. There is a healthy population of fish in the 1-3 pound range and they can get a lot bigger, or smaller. What if I need to cancel?
We understand that circumstances can change, however, your initial deposit holds your slot and is nonrefundable. We will be happy to reschedule you for a later date, as long as you give us some hangtime. Cancelling the night before or the morning of does not qualify as hangtime.
Can we keep the fish?
Everything we do is catch and release, which is the industry standard among most guide outfits. These fish take years to grow and in order to keep our fisheries healthy, we let them go to ensure healthy populations.
